About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a Manager of Engineering with a passion for learning, a kind heart, a positive attitude, and a great sense of humor to join our growing team. This is a hands-on engineering management role leading development for ClearGov’s Disclosure product suite—driving technical direction, mentoring engineers, and actively contributing to architecture and delivery.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong ownership, technical depth, and creative problem-solving, consistently delivering high-quality results. Responsibilities span the full software development lifecycle, including architecture and design, implementation, testing, performance optimization, and ongoing support, while collaborating cross-functionally to deliver reliable and maintainable software.
The Manager of Engineering will be a key player on an incredible team as we execute our mission to help local governments and school districts take the next step from good to great.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead delivery for the Disclosure Studio through the team by aligning priorities, removing blockers, and ensuring roadmap commitments are executed successfully.
- Provide hands-on technical support when needed by guiding technical direction, supporting design and implementation decisions, and stepping in to help the team succeed.
- Manage, coach, and develop engineers through regular feedback, performance management, and career growth support.
- Ensure team health and effectiveness by fostering a collaborative, accountable, and sustainable team environment.
- Drive execution quality and engineering standards by setting clear expectations for ownership, delivery, and strong engineering practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and stakeholders to translate business priorities into clear technical plans and maintain alignment.
- Drive planning, prioritization, and predictable delivery by guiding estimation, sequencing, and tradeoff decisions across team initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement in team processes, tooling, and workflows to improve quality, scalability, and delivery velocity.
- Build the team’s readiness for broader ownership by enabling successful collaboration across peer teams and larger cross-functional initiatives.
Critical Skills/Experience:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including demonstrated success leading teams in a SaaS environment
- Proven experience managing engineers, supporting career development, and driving strong team performance
- Demonstrated ability to lead delivery for complex, cross-functional initiatives through a team
- Strong understanding of software architecture, development standards, scalability, and operational best practices
- Experience balancing technical leadership with people management, team health, and delivery accountability
- Strong planning, prioritization, and execution skills in fast-paced Agile environments
- Proficiency leveraging AI-assisted development tools and modern frameworks to improve team quality and delivery velocity
- Ability to partner effectively with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities and communicate progress
- Strong experience with SQL and relational databases
- Experience driving continuous improvement in engineering processes, tooling, and team effectiveness
Technical Depth Across Core Platforms:
- Frontend: Angular, Socket.IO, Highcharts, D3, Gulp, LESS
- Backend: Node.js, Java, Spring Boot, RabbitMQ, MySQL/PostgreSQL
- Infrastructure & Tools: AWS (including S3), Git, JIRA, Confluence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Passion for mentoring and developing engineers across both IC and management career paths
- Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leader with a strong bias toward action and delivery

Compensation:
- In the spirit of transparency, we are excited to share the base salary for this position is $150,000 - $180,000 CAD and exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired at ClearGov, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, interview performance, education and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary for the role. Hiring beyond the base range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package (more information on benefits listed below).
